MindPLAY, Hamilton’s Premiere Mental Health Theatre Festival returns for a second year

January 29th, 2018. HAMILTON – The first ever MindPLAY Theatre Festival debuted in May 2017.  The festival became Hamilton’s first mental health theatre festival, where artists were invited to share their stories free of any stigma surrounding mental health.  Now in its second year, MindPLAY returns May 25th-27th to the Staircase Café Theatre.

Last year’s festival featured 10 shows by a diverse group of artists, taking place over a 3-day period at the Staircase Café Theatre.  The shows addressed topics like ADHD, self-harm, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, and gender dysphoria.

Applications are now open for the second year of the MindPLAY Theatre Festival on the Red Pants Productions website, closing on March 1st, 2018 at 11:59 PM.  The festival encourages applicants with pieces ranging from 2-40 minutes to apply to the festival.  Artists are also encouraged to apply under a pseudonym if they are uncomfortable with presenting a piece under their given name.

In 2017, MindPLAY Theatre Festival scored the cover of VIEW Magazine, as well as receiving accolades from the Hamilton Spectator’s Readers’ Choice AwardsMindPLAY placed in the top ten of the festival category, the only theatre festival to do so.
